IP over Avian Carriers – Internet Protocol traffic by birds?

While looking for some information on Internet Protocol and IP addresses on Wikipedia, I found an interesting article that talks about a humorous proposal to carry Internet Protocol (IP) traffic by birds such as homing pigeons.
