Locate your lost or stolen laptop with FireFound [Firefox]

This is one of the most interesting software concepts I have come across in recent times. FireFound is a Firefox add-on that will help you find your lost or stolen computer, provided you had installed the add-on prior to losing your laptop. FireFound monitors the location of your computer for changes and securely notifies a remote server as soon the location changes, which would happen when your laptop is either lost or you move from one location to another. Your location’s data is password protected, so only you can know your computer’s location and log into your account to monitor its movement.

The best part of the tool is that in case your laptop is lost or stolen, you can simply login to your account and have FireFound clear your personal data, such as saved passwords, from Firefox before anyone else is able to retrieve it from the browser. Technically, if your laptop is lost today you will login to your account and ask FireFound to clear your personal data and when the person who has your laptop will open Firefox, the add-on will contact the server for instructions and clear the data. Sizer: Useful window sizing utility for web designers

Sizer is a free windows based utility for web developers and designers that will let you resize a window to a precise and predefined size of your choice. Installation of size is done using its small executable and once installed, you will an icon in the system tray resembling sizing arrows.

To resize a window, move the mouse cursor at the border of the window which brings up the resizing cursors and then press the right click button on your mouse which will bring up a pop-up menu with a list of sizes that you can select to resize that window. You can bring up the resizing selection pop-up menu simply by right clicking the border of a window, this is handy if the window is already maximized.

You can enter your own sizing options in the configuration dialog of the utility and even integrate it in the system menu and thus bring up the pop-up menu by right clicking the title area of the window.

I recently came across TeuxDeux and liked it so much that now I am using it everyday to manage my daily tasks. Absolutely clutter free, TeuxDeux is the simplest online task management tool that I have ever seen. It’s so easy to use that it won’t take you more than a minute to setup your tasks in it and get started. One of the feature of this online task manager that I liked the most is that it moves an incomplete task to the next day so that your unfinished tasks always stay within your focus.

The home page of xFruits will tell you, in less than a minute, about its capabilities and features it currently offers. I like websites that can project about its offerings in very short time. xFruits is a free online service that lets you take advantage of RSS in a variety of ways. Some of the features that I found to be very useful are:-

RSS Aggregator – Combine several RSS feeds such that the output is a single feed consisting of last 100 new posts. Very useful when you are subscribed to many blogs and track them everyday.
RSS to HTML – Input a feed and receive a strict xHTML 1.0 output.
RSS to PDF – Create a PDF file from an RSS feed. The PDF document is automatically set for printing and it includes a bookmark by source, title and author.
Post to RSS – Get a RSS feed of all emails sent to an xFruits mailbox. Get several persons writing on that mailbox and get an RSS feed of it.
RSS to MOBILE – Automatically create your mobile website version! Enter your RSS feed and get an url to consult your Website or blog on your mobile. xHTML 1.0 standard.
RSS to VOICE – Create vFruits from an RSS input to a podcast output. Each item of the feed is converted into voice by the VocalFruits service. Now that’s something going to be very helpful in future.
RSS to OPML – Gather and organise your RSS feeds by putting them into a single OPML file.

The full copy of this software does a very solid job of detecting and cleaning spywares from your system though.

» Microsoft Windows Defender – It’s a great software that performs very well when compared to other tools listed here. It has a scheduler that lets you schedule system scans at regular intervals and you can also change the security settings to let the system run applications that were previously blocked by Defender, which we found was lacking in other tools in this category. It’s highly recommended tool for your system.

» eTrust PestPatrol – Pretty decent performance, easy to understand interface makes this a nice antispyware tool that you can give a try. Lack of a feature to ignore certain applications from being marked as spywares is not good but overall it is a nice tool if you consider its other features.

» Trend Micro Anti-Spyware – This software offers very fast system scan, excellent spyware detection and nice real time spyware protection. The interface is pretty easy to understand and also features extensive help if you shall need it. Highly recommended but be advised that the real time scan can slow down your system to a certain extent but may not be noticeable if your system has plenty of memory to work with.
