xFruits is a web 2.0 service, still in beta, that comes with a very low learning curve to understand what it does and how to use it. The home page of xFruits will tell you, in less than a minute, about its capabilities and features it currently offers. I like websites that can project about its offerings in very short time. It’s all about organizing your home page. Ok, now back to xFruits.

xFruits is a free online service that lets you take advantage of RSS in a variety of ways. Some of the features that I found to be very useful are:-

RSS Aggregator – Combine several RSS feeds such that the output is a single feed consisting of last 100 new posts. Very useful when you are subscribed to many blogs and track them everyday.

RSS to HTML – Input a feed and receive a strict xHTML 1.0 output.

RSS to PDF – Create a PDF file from an RSS feed. The PDF document is automatically set for printing and it includes a bookmark by source, title and author.

Post to RSS – Get a RSS feed of all emails sent to an xFruits mailbox. Get several persons writing on that mailbox and get an RSS feed of it.

RSS to MOBILE – Automatically create your mobile website version! Enter your RSS feed and get an url to consult your Website or blog on your mobile. xHTML 1.0 standard.

RSS to VOICE – Create vFruits from an RSS input to a podcast output. Each item of the feed is converted into voice by the VocalFruits service. Now that’s something going to be very helpful in future.

RSS to OPML – Gather and organise your RSS feeds by putting them into a single OPML file.

» Go ahead and give xFruits a try and meanwhile I try to figure out to use xFruits to organize my information.

Software localization is translating the user interface of a software application to other languages. Localization is often done by translators who are specialized in one or more languages and require certain level of access to the software code to translate the interface to other languages. This type of translation task to localize a software product is mostly outsourced to save the cost but certain degrees of risk is always associated since your code is exposed to external companies and individuals. Localizing and making your software available in many languages gives you an immediate edge over your competitors in the global market, increase your revenue stream and also grows your market share.

The current process that most companies follow to have their software localized to other languages is as follows:

Identify the external companies that can translate the software interfaces into other languages.

Handover the requirement to external company for them to generate a quote.

Receive the quotation for the localization project.

Negotiate the cost and project delivery schedule.

Award the project and wait for the project delivery schedule.

Sisulizer Software Localization Tool eliminates all the steps from the process mentioned above since it has only 3 simple steps to localize a software product and the steps are:

Scan

Translate

Build

The scan phase first scans through your application and locates all the text that could be a language string from any of the supported language. Some of the most common areas of a software product that requires localization are icons, menus, dialog boxes, selection menus, instructions on screen and tabs, help section etc. The tool is capable of capturing text from even databases and text files other than a wide range of supported programming languages and since it provides visual interaction with HTML, HTML Help (.chm) and XML, translation becomes much easier and easy enough for anyone to perform it.

The Sisulizer Software Localization Tool supports and works directly with C++ Builder, Delphi, Visual C++, Visual Basic, Java, Windows binary files, XLIFF and also .NET assembly. It also supports Binary localization which is capable of reading all strings that should be localized from an already compiled application. For the mobile platform, it supports .NET for Smart Devices, Pocket PC, Windows mobile, Symbian, and J2ME. And since some software developers prefer database localization, Sisulizer is capable of localizing Access, dBase, DBISAM, Interbase, MySQL, Oracle, Paradox and SQL Server.

In the second phase of localization, translate phase, you are given complete control over the entire translation process. You can entirely control the translation – word by word, use auto-translation and complete the translation. Sisulizer’s Exchange Wizard can create a single file containing a self-installing Sisulizer Translation Edition and a project file. You can then send this file to an external translator who can use the free edition of Sisulizer to work on only the translation part.

The last phase of the process is build phase. In this phase, simply run Sisulizer to build a new version of your program in the new language. For Binary localization, you don’t need to recompile an application to get its localized version, all you have to do is let Sisulizer build the new EXE, DLL, OCX and other files for you.

Positives of Sisulizer Software Localization Tool

Support for wider range of software platforms

Availability of many languages for localizing

Ease of use and easy to understand interface

Eliminates outsourcing the translation work

Higher Returns on Investment [ROI]

Eliminates exposure of software code to external translators

Competitive pricing of product

Negatives of Sisulizer Software Localization Tool

Freelancers and developers working on small projects may find the pricing to be on the higher side

For a content sensitive product, you might still need the help of a translator

Sisulizer is running a sales promotion and offering 50% discount for all the purchases made in March. If you plan to buy yourself a copy, this is the right time to procure one.

Conclusion: Every software company that has products and is targeting for global market will find localization a must for them to enter into global, competitive and niche markets. Sisulizer Software Localization Tool is easy to work with, supports wide range of languages and definitely recommended for your localization needs.

One of the most happening technologies on Internet today is AJAX. Though, it had been in existence for several years now, its usage has been emphasized and highlighted with its implementation by Google. Who started it all is arguable and there are several companies who reportedly started implementation of AJAX in their applications even before the term ‘AJAX’ was coined.

1. AJAX is capable of delivering functionality of a desktop over the web to end users. It can deliver commercial strength applications, on the fly, to the user on internet.

2. Central point of deployment and upgrades makes it a better choice to consider over other technologies. You will have to only upgrade any piece of code on the central web server [such as Apache] and it can be easily replicated on the client side.

3. Its ability to deliver cross platform, cross browser and desktop quality applications have made it more popular. More and more frameworks are under development and instead of developing your own, you can customize the existing ones to fit into your requirements.

4. AJAX reduces the amount of coding it might take to develop a web based application which requires lot of interaction and data selection at user’s end. For example, imagine a user requiring to fill in item codes in an order form and then fill out the rest of fields to place the order. What if one of those items was out of stock and user would realize it only after submitting the form? AJAX can dramatically cut the processing time and pain by dynamically querying the database as and when the user types the item code and moves onto next field to enter the next item code. The application will then tell the user about availability of the stock without user having to submit the form at all. User may either continue to fill up the form or leave it. The application at the back end can send out an email or alert the concerned personnel about a user filling out an item which is not available in the inventory. Thus taking maximum advantage of such an implementation. User can also be dynamically presented with alternate items if need be, in the same form without him submitting it.

5. With ‘Drag & Drop’ feature, AJAX makes applications more interactive and fun to use. Users will not have to go through the traditional method of clicking and selecting several check boxes to make their selection. It reduces the end users time while interacting with your application.

6. Another possibility of interlinking different AJAX applications into one single application is also catching up fast. It’s possible to interlink several AJAX applications to deliver all of them in one interface to your user, which makes your applications rich in functionality.

Some of the most popular examples of AJAX implementation can be seen in [GMail], [NetVibes], [Google Maps] etc.

Are you looking for latest version of Flash Player for your browser? It’s available on [Adobe's web site].

It’s official now! Mozilla foundation will have access to the source code of the Flash Player. This will enable developers at Mozilla Foundation to come up with better handling model for Web 2.0 based applications in Firefox.

How will Flash source help Firefox?

Developers at Mozilla will incorporate ActionScript Virtual Machine from Flash source into their Firefox browser. ActionScript is believed to be faster and efficient than the JScript currently used. This is a part of the open source project called Tamarin which is aimed towards providing a faster, rich and unified scripting engine to web developers.

What is ActionScript

ActionScript is based on ECMAScript, an international standardized programming language for scripting. The current version of ActionScript 3.0 is well suited for developing rich Internet applications, capable of handling large datasets, object-oriented, reusable code makes a win-win situation for both Adobe and Mozilla Foundation.

In coming months, we can expect to see Firefox advancing by several steps and take an edge over all other browsers with ActionScript integration. Adobe, however, also wants Microsoft to incorporate the ActionScript into Internet Explorer but no official communication is released yet from Microsoft.
