Wal-Mart Stores to sell iPhone from tomorrow
Starting tomorrow, December 28th 2008, Wal-Mart Store Inc. in America will start selling iPhones at a retail price of $197 for the 8GB iPhone and the 16Gb version of the iPhone will be available for $297. Customers buying iPhone from Wal-Mart store will be required to sign-up for a 2 year service agreement with AT&T.
Don’t be disappointed with the price tag of the iPhone. According to a press release by Apple, Wal-Mart stores can match the price of the iPhone with any local competitor’s price that would be lower than the price at Wal-Mart, during the same promotional period. You may want to clarify that when you visit a Wal-Mart store near you.
However, it’s somewhat difficult to understand this move of Apple to release iPhone into Wal-Mart stores which usually sells less expensive brands of other phones. I personally feel that it’s a good decision by Apple and that’s because if Apple releases a new version of less expensive iPhone through Wal-Mart in future, it will have a positive impact on the sale of iPhone.
