SanDisk launches ExtremeFFS filesystem that makes SSD 100x faster
In a recent announcement, SanDisk has unveiled its new filesystem called ExtremeFFS and claims that it will make the solid state drives (SSD) perform upto 100 times faster.
The new file system from SanDisk is a patented flash management system that has the potential to increase the random write speeds by upto 100 times when compared to the existing file system. ExtremeFFS operates on a page-based algorithm such that when data is written on the disk, the SSD puts is where it is most convenient and efficient. This results in an acceleration in the random write speeds.
SanDisk has also launched vRPM (virtual RPM), that will easily allow consumers to compare performance of SSDs to HDDs since the performance of HDDs is measured by the RPM. The filesystem will start shipping in SanDisk products from 2009.
