Another 100 plus mpg car adds to the list of high mpg cars

If you are a high mpg car enthusiast and keep an eye on mpg ratings of various cars, add a category to your list of high mpg cars and call it ‘powered by air car’. “Runs on compressed air”, that’s the description of this 106 mpg car that claims to run on compressed air.

Although, possibility of achieving a fuel economy of 106 mpg could call for a debate but at the concept level this car certainly seems to be able to achieve that kind of mileage. If you are wondering about the technology that will drive such a car, let me tell you that it’s very simple to understand, at least. Compressed air will be filled in many tanks, and the air will in-turn move the piston in the engine. The car won’t be running on compressed air alone, it will use gas also. Based on the driving speed, the car will automatically switch between gas or air. If driving speed is below certain level, the car will use compressed air and when driving speed is high, it will run on gas to fill the tanks with compressed air.

The maker of this car, Zero Pollution Motors, is likely to make this car available in the market by 2010 at an estimated price tag of $18,000. That’s certainly interesting! Let’s hope this car makes it to the masses.
