First custom Openmoko phone now available with full bundle of custom Google applications
Remember Openmoko? – the open-source alternative to iPhone that we had covered earlier? Well, nevermind. Here’s a refresher – The Openmoko stack allows users and developers to transform mobile hardware platforms into unique products. The open license allows developers and anyone to install their choice of the software on the handset and customize the phone to any extent.
A Canada based company Koolu has launched the custom Openmoko called W.E. (works everywhere). So, what’s different about this phone? Openmoko phones allow complete customization as they run on open-source OS, so you could anything you want to with these phones. Even load your application on top of it and that’s no problem.
Koolu’s W.E. phones are available with full bundle of Google apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk etc. Koolu is supposedly also working an Android OS version of this phone that might be launched towards the end of this year.
