My review of HTC Touch Smartphone

My wife recently gifted me a HTC Touch phone that made me absolutely delighted for quite a few reasons. First, the timing of this gift was perfect. I was contemplating on buying a phone anyway, and secondly I got the same phone that I was considering to buy. Here is my few days worth of review of the HTC Touch that might be of an interest to you in case you are intending to buy it.

HTC Touch SmarPhone Review

First impression of the HTC Touch

The HTC Touch has been designed with perfection. The phone looks very smart and combines an array of features that will for sure entice many of you. This phone is small and much lighter (112 grams with battery) than my earlier Nokia 6600 which I had used for more than 3 years. The 2.8″ touch screen TFT display is large enough and the overall interface is well designed. At first glance you won’t be able to make out that this phone is actually running on Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. HTC has very well masked the underlying operating system and enhanced the looks by several folds.

The phone certainly seems to be very delicate and I can no way use it the way I have used my Nokia 6600. By the way, my Nokia 6600 was subjected to very harsh handling conditions but it had never shown the sighs of giving up on me. And I think that’s why HTC Touch comes along with a nice pouch that can carry the Touch with little more care, if not provide the complete protection.

Coming onto the features, I found enormous differences between Nokia and the HTC phone. Primarily because of the fact that HTC runs on Windows Mobile and is designed for business use. It took me at least a day to get used to the menu items and remember the location programs that I would need.

The 2 mega pixel CMOS camera is certainly a delight and zooms upto 10x, a flash would have made is a good feature though. Mind you, to take sharp and clear photos you have to hold the phone steadily and avoid any kind of vibration else don’t expect a clear picture.

It comes with a 1 GB microSD™ memory card for storing your media files. I am definitely going to need this as this phone can play MP3 songs and the sound quality, which the ear phones that comes along with this phone produces, is excellent.

The phone also has WiFi and Bluetooth but I haven’t used either of them yet to be able to comment on these features and their performance. May be later.

Performance of HTC Touch

The phone is powered using the TI’s OMAP 850 201 MHz processor and runs on Windows Mobile 6 professional. Speed is not a problem and the phone has not hanged even once. Something that I wasn’t expecting from a phone that runs on Microsoft OS.

Yes! It’s a wonderful phone. But if you are heavily into SMS and chatting, this phone may not meet your expectations as it does not has a separate keypad.
