Increase Traffic to Your Blog by Showing Related Posts in RSS Feed

Are you a blogger who offers full feed to your visitors? If your answer is yes, you are about to discover a very simple way of showing related posts in the RSS feed of your blog. But before we get there, let’s understand what related posts are, why we want to show them in your RSS feed and what purpose will it serve in the future.

What are related posts?

The posts which have been placed in the same category or the tag are called as related posts with respect to any one of the posts in that category. For example, if I have 10 posts in a category called ‘Make Money with RSS’ and if I were to pick one post out of those 10, then other 9 posts will be called the related posts with respect to the post I picked from that category. Got it?

Why do we want to show related posts in the RSS feed?

We want to do this for two reasons which are mentioned below.

  • Drive visitors to your blog site - This is one common problem with many bloggers. As the number of RSS subscribers to their blog increases, they get very less visits from those subscribers to their blog. Due to this, they lose on many opportunities that they could have explored with that traffic on their blog site, such as monetization etc.
  • Provide more content to your subscribers - Subscribers who read your content via feeds would be happy to see related posts in the feed. If your article is useful, the related articles will help them further and eventually get more subscribers to your blog.

Bonus Tip: When you show related posts in feeds, it shows them randomly. Over a period of time, your feeds will show lot of old and different posts which otherwise would have remained buried deep inside some corner your blog.

How do we show related posts in our feeds?

All you need are these plugins:-

  • ST Add Related Posts to Feed - Download this plugin and install it. Just follow the link, installing and using it very easy. Note: This plugin will require either of the two plugins mentioned below.
  • Related Posts Plugin - This one is the core plugin that will power the above plugin to pull related posts.
  • Ultimate Tag Warrior - If you already have UTW installed, you only need to download the first plugin and use it.
  • Goodluck!

I have Related Posts Plugin on all my sites - and it is showing up on my posts. However, I don’t see the related posts in my feed. Any idea what I am missing?

    Hi Raj

I have struggling to find a solution to display related post on my RSS feed. Based on what you suggest above, it seems that UTW is not supported in WP2.5 whereas the one from w-a-s-a-b-i is no longer available.

Been googling and stumbled upon your site. Appreciate if you can lead me to somewhere.

    Yan,
If you want to display related posts in your blog post based on the tags, then I recommend you download ‘Simple Tagging’ plugin and give it a try. It has a feature to display related posts based on the tags you use in your posts.

    Hi Raj

Oh, I guess you miss the point. I’ll like to have a related post on my RSS feed instead. Or am I missing the point here? Are you saying that the ‘Simple Tagging’ plugin will also show related posts on both my post and RSS feed?

But then again thanks for your recommendation. I appreciate it.

    Yan,
This post is actually about what you are asking for. You need to install \’ST Add Related Posts to Feed\’ plugin in your blog.

Oh Raj, I did have it but I still need either one of UTW or Related Post plugins, do I? Both of which, doesn’t work with WP 2.5…

Anyway thanks for taking the time to response back.
