A Simple Way to Increase the Alexa Rank of Your Website
Is there really a simple way of doing this? I have been looking for ways to increase my blog’s Alexa rank as it’s considered to be an important factor by many online services while judging my blog’s overall performance. Some of them are ReviewMe and Text-Link-Ads. It would be a matter of discussion to determine how reliable their ranking really is and most of you must be already knowing that their ranking system is entirely based on the website usage data that they collect using their Alexa toolbar that hardly many people use. Since it’s available only for Internet Explorer, chances are bright that you will see huge change in site rankings if their toolbar was to be made available for Firefox also.
Anyhow, let me show you the trick that I actually tried to see if it will ever make any difference to my site’s Alexa ranking. And to my surprise it did! All I did was that I installed Alexa toolbar on my own system and started using Internet Explorer instead of using Firefox to check my web mail, CPanel, Mint (my visitor analytics software) which are accessed using either a sub-domain or a folder from under my domain. I also started using IE for checking the admin area of my blog and posting new articles.
Results? - Last week my blog’s Alexa ranking was 234,901 and this week it’s 221,179. An increase in rank by 13,722. Isn’t that good? I have never seen this happening before. The traffic to my site is consistent and I don’t think that now more people, who visit my blog, have started using Alexa toolbar either.
UPDATE: Alexa has now released a toolbar for Firefox browser too (available here), the rank of websites will take a beat and you might see lot of variation for some time. Your best best is to follow the trick outlined in this post by downloading Alexa toolbar for your Firefox browser as well.
Do you want to try this trick? If you do, please do post your experience in the comments section here.

Today your alexa rank is 212708. It looks like you have comprised the features of Firefox with the alexa ranking. I would be very interested to know if you have any tips for other rankings(for e.g Google’s PageRank)

Hi Pradeep,
There is only one effective tip for increasing Google’s PR and that’s getting as many as inbound links as possible for your pages. One sure way of doing this is posting your valuable comments on other blogs. Post at least 10 comments on other blogs, do it for at least one month and it will benefit your blog’s PR.
Cheers!!

Do you know most of the blogs generates the links in the comments section with rel attribute set to ‘external nofollow’? and that is the reason most of the search engines doesn’t consider it as inbound links. I don’t think it affects the Google PR. Even if it affects the Google PR it will be changed very soon.
Here is the example of your blog
href=’http://www.sheetudeep.com/blog’ rel=’external nofollow’

Pradeep,
I am in process of installing dofollow plugin in my blog. Should be done in few days time to remove that external nofollow rel tag from all the comments.

Installing “dofollow” plugin will help the people posting comments on your blog, but won’t help you in getting the inbound links from other blogs by just posting comments.

Whether true or not, this sounds like the most goofy tip I have heard. No offense.
…its more of a cheat sheet.
It defies the whole purpose of Alexa rankings.

Tarun,
The way alexa ranks a website is nothing more than an unreliable process! It’s unrealistic as well. I mentioned the trick here because many websites weight your website based on its alexa rank which should not be the case.

Suresh,
I visited your site and looks like you have designed this site to put ads on it. The home page does not has content, just links to other sections. I recommend that you add more content to your site and remove ads for now. People will then start linking to your website and your search engine ranking will improve, indirectly increasing the hits.
