What Happens When you Park your Domain Long Enough?
Everyone of us who registers a domain name does so because there is something that we want to do with it. The domain would then go live as soon as it’s registered or sometimes after several weeks, months or even years. I had registered InsideWH.com last year in March and had plans to launch InsideWH last year in April itself, but then things did not work out. One single most factor was time that I did not had enough of in my hand to start blogging on hosting related topics. But finally I launched InsideWH this year in March and I am glad I did it!
Now comes the fun part! Within a week of launching the blog I could see all of my pages showing in supplemental results and one thing that Google emphasizes is to get as many as quality backlinks links as possible to keep your domain in good position in results page. One quick look at the Analytics and my Mint reports revealed something unusual. I was getting hits for cars, travels, Chevrolet and many other keywords which were not related to my site. This created a lot of confusion initially, but later I figured out the problem. It was due to the fact that my domain was parked with GoDaddy since the day it was registered and they had been running ads all over its landing page and I think Google and other search engines must have associated my site with all those keywords appearing in the site. Whatever happened, it’s not good.
I am trying to generate more incoming links to InsideWH and that will take some time. The problem is not so big but if you have big plans with your domain and would like to get placed higher on search engines, you better seek advise of some SEO specialist and find out if this will create any problem when you launch your domain.
ยป Tip: To avoid this problem with your parked domain, host it somewhere and put up a page with title of the domain, meta keywords and description which are most related to your site. This should help it to a certain extent.
