New Google Click to Call Feature Shows up in Search Results

I was looking for official website of ICC world cup 2007 and noticed an unusual Ad listing on the right hand side of search results. It’s the same unit holder on the right hand side that shows up text ad units and I noticed a phone icon next to the title of the Ad. Out of curiosity, I clicked on it and found it to be a new Click-to-call feature from Google.

Google Click to Call Feature

The new click-to-call feature from Google lets you call the businesses, that you find via the search results, for free. You will see a phone icon on the right side of the title in the Ad unit and all you have to do is click on it, key in your phone number and you are connected to the business directly. When you hear your phone ringing, answer it and you will then hear it ringing while Google connects to the business number on the other end. For now, the service is free for both local and long distance calls.

There is also a checkout option – it is shown in the picture as well. Sometimes the picture is different(a small shopping cart) – that feature came out recently too.

Binny,
I had heard about click-to-call feature before too but only that it shows up on Google maps. This is the first time, I saw that phone icon in my own search result and at first couldn’t make out if it was click-to-call feature or something else.
