Something I wish I knew about when setting up my hosting was external requests. Some wordpress plugins wont work on my blog because they use fsockopen() and my hosting service blocks this. For example the sitemaps plugin wont ping google, the tag suggest function on ultimate tag warrior doesnt work, and I played around with some RSS reader plugins, none of which worked.
