@Binny - I concur your thoughts. Support for multiple programming languages is a bonus point. Many users overlook the processor and database usage limit as well. Thank you for points!

I agree with all of Binny V A’s points.

Something I wish I knew about when setting up my hosting was external requests. Some wordpress plugins wont work on my blog because they use fsockopen() and my hosting service blocks this. For example the sitemaps plugin wont ping google, the tag suggest function on ultimate tag warrior doesnt work, and I played around with some RSS reader plugins, none of which worked.

I check which all languages are supported. The host I use now(Dreamhost) supports PHP, Perl, Ruby(and Ruby on Rails, Python and others.

Other points to consider…
Processor usage limit
Database limit
Number of domains per hosting account.
