February Release: 20 Websites You Wouldn’t have Known About
Here is a list of 20 web sites that I found while casually surfing the Internet and I think they could be useful to you in some or the other way.
1. Timeticker.com - An excellent online tool for finding the current time in different countries and various time zones. Though there are other online websites for finding this out but this one is one of the simplest to use.
2. OpenLinuxRouter - Are you a small, medium size or a large company? Or, if you aspire to learn routing? This is an Open Source and free tool to opt instead going for expensive routing equipments. The application is easy to install, configure and maintain.
3. HistoryfBranding - Do you want to find out about the branding history of popular companies? This is the website to find all the information. Information about many companies are available for you to read and enhance your knowledge about their branding.
4. OpenLaszlo - OpenLaszlo is an open source platform for creating zero-install web applications with the user interface capabilities of desktop client software. OpenLaszlo is “write once, run everywhere.” An OpenLaszlo application developed on one machine will run on all leading Web browsers on all leading desktop operating systems.
5. SmashingMagazine - A blog with every article worth reading, packed with lot of useful information and links to websites that will make your web design & development efforts easy. I highly recommend that you bookmark them and also subscribe to them.
6. Ajax13 - Free online web applications such as Word processor (ajaxWrite), Sketch (ajaxSketch), Spreadsheets (ajaxXLS), Presentation (ajaxPresents) and Tunes (ajaxTunes).
7. GetJar - Home of free Java, Symbian, Palm and Pocket PC software. Some of the applications that are available on this site are those you wouldn’t have even heard about.
8. TweakGuides - TweakGuides is dedicated to software tweaks for drivers, games, browsers and XP operating system.
9. Webmath.com - As the name suggests, they have lot of topics covered on Math such as General Math, Algebra, Plots & Geometry, Calculus etc.
10. MyStickies - MyStickies allows you to place little yellow squares of digital paper anywhere and everywhere you feel like in the whole wide web. Along with the ability to put sticky notes on web pages mystickies offers a powerful interface to browse, search, sort, edit and generally have a wonderful time with your sticky notes from any computer that has internet access.
11. Aston shell - Aston is a new Desktop and Shell replacement for Windows 9X/ME/NT/2K/XP. It replaces the standard Windows Desktop and provides you with a host of new features, such as Sidebars, clock, weather monitor, animated buttons, transparency effects and much more.
12. eyeOS - eyeOS is an Open Source Web Desktop Environment, commonly known as Web Operating System (Web OS) or Web Office. eyeOS is Open Source Software, and can be downloaded or used through the official eyeOS server. The basic System comes with some office and PIM applications, and the complete eyeOS software database can be found at eyeApps.org and in the public server.
13. Looplabs - Looplabs is the web’s premiere online music mixing application. Since 2001 millions of web users from around the world have experienced the art of music mixing through Looplabs extremely intuitive and easy-to use software interface.
14. picotux - The picotux 100 is the world’s smallest Linux computer, only slightly larger (35mm×19mm×19mm) than an RJ45 connector.
15. OldApps - Are you looking for older versions of popular softwares? This is the right place to look for older version of many popular software titles.
16. RoundCube - RoundCube Webmail is a browser-based multilingual IMAP client with an application-like user interface. It provides full functionality you expect from an e-mail client, including MIME support, address book, folder manipulation, message searching and spell checking. It’s written in PHP and requires the MySQL database. The user interface is fully skinnable using XHTML and CSS 2.
17. Thinkature - It lets you create a collaborative workspace and invite coworkers, friends, and colleagues to join you in just seconds. Once inside your workspace, you can communicate by chatting, drawing, creating cards, and adding content from around the Internet. It’s all synchronous.
18. Symbols.com - It’s an online encyclopedia or Western signs and Ideograms, and contains more than 1,600 articles about 2,500 Western signs, arranged into 54 groups according to their graphic characteristics.
19. Dimdim - Dimdim is the Open Source web conferencing company. With Dimdim you can show Presentations, Applications and Desktops to any other person over the internet. You can chat, show your webcam and talk with others in the meeting.
20. WineHQ - Wine is a translation layer (a program loader) capable of running Windows applications on Linux and other POSIX compatible operating systems. Windows programs running in Wine act as native programs would, running without the performance or memory usage penalties of an emulator, with a similar look and feel to other applications on your desktop.
