Browse the Web in a Different Way with Swarm

Swarm is a tool that shows you the websites that people are visiting at this moment. Swarm does this by gathering anonymous information about websites people visit using a tool bar installed in the browsers of people using Swarm. It has a graphical map with literally hundreds of websites all connecting to each other in some way and is continuously updated as people keep browsing through different websites. Most often visited sites and also the sites gaining popularity are drawn towards the center of the graphical map thus giving more clear picture about the frequently visited websites.

It’s not for searching the web but browsing the web to find something that’s different and was unknown to you before. Their tool even has a chat feature that will let you chat about any link with other community members.

If you are interested in using Swarm, may I recommend that you also download and and install their Firefox extension and contribute data towards building a bigger and better database of information. When you browse your own website with their tool bar installed, it will put it on the map for others to discover your web and may bring in lot of much needed traffic.

Hmm… not sure how useful it will be. Besides the problems with privacy.

    Binny,
They have the source code of the tool bar open and they clearly state that they don’t collect any information from your system, they don’t take https:// domains and also login pages. As far as usefulness is concerned, there are couple of interesting things to observe and I found few websites that otherwise wouldn’t have known about.
