Windows Resource: Free Utility to view all connected USB devices

[USBDeview] is a freeware utility that will show you information about all the currently connected USB devices to your system. The utility is small in size [under 45k] and is packed with lot of information.

Some of the important information about the connected devices that it can show are:

  • Device Name
  • Device Description
  • Type of the Device
  • Connected Status. [If connected, you can disconnect it from the utility itself]
  • Is it Safe To Unplug?
  • Assigned Drive Letter to the device
  • Last Plug/Unplug Date [This one is very good]
  • Hub/Port Information
  • Ability to connect to remote system and display information about connected devices on remote PCs

Every time you disconnect and connect the same USB device to another port on your system, the utility will show it as a new device though. This is an exception for mass storage devices. When devices are connected/disconnected, the utility automatically updates the list of connected devices, but if your are connected to a remote system, the tool will not be able to detect the status of devices. You will have to refresh the console manually.

System Requirements:

This utility works on Windows 2000/XP/2003 but NOT on Windows 98/ME or older versions of Windows.

It’s a nice and must to have utility in your tool kit collection. :)
